That sounds so profound you have to take your yarmulke off and bow.May I be the first to say I have not the slightest idea of what he means. None. I have nothing."Each day a few more lies eat into the seed with which we are born, little institutional lies from the print of newspapers, the shock waves of television, and the sentimental cheats of the movie screen.""The function of socialism is to raise suffering to a higher level."Ahuh. That's more within my range.
It's a bit of a brain tickler. Think of it like this, Geoffff: anyone wanting to look ageless needs to pay in increasing amounts of money, time, inconvenience, pain and risk for surgical and non-surgical interventions to maintain the look of being younger than the age of one's hands and arse (although both of those can be addressed with medical interventions as well). See. That's what it means.Same is true of thoughts. There's a high price to never changing your mind, never learning a new thing, never adjusting to new information, never letting go of an ideology. Very high prices. We see that everyday in public life, don't we? I always thought the function of socialism was to share suffering and deprivation around to the maximum number of people, so as to kick all aspirations from the souls of all.
Thanks Caz.Now I get it.
Glad to be of service.
The law of life would be change (the universal constant), and change can bring suffering, especially if one desires to keep the status quo, and especially if one refuses to accept, or adapt to and learn from change, such as aging and the lessons we learn from the experiences change affords us as we grow. Maybe NM was channeling Gautama Buddha. The function of socialism is to raise suffering to a higher level.Everyone wants to live at the expense of the State. They forget that the State lives at the expense of everyone. — Frederic BastiatMuch more suffering to come...j
The suffering, then, never ends ...
Only for the immortal, unless you believe like that Buddha guy that suffering ends when one eliminates desire - a pathway to the true self - the purity of awareness (sans ego, or super ego), an understanding of the self in relationship with the self, and the self in relationship with the universe - at the end of the day it is all one.But I suppose if you spent too much time starving yourself out there in he desert then you'd have to come up with something (of consideration) that would justify the stupidity.Give up sex, booze and making a pig of oneself over some really delicious dead animal?Yeah, it's easy to be a wise man when living on one's own on top of a cold wet windy mountain - no bloody choice.NM, understands, I'm sure.jj
Given up sex and booze???In a pigs eye!
Give not given. One too many beers tonight. :)
...if you spent too much time starving yourself out there in he desert then you'd have to come up with something (of consideration) that would justify the stupidity.Yes. Self justification has a great deal to answer for, whether starving or being glutinous, in any sphere of life. "Balance" is another stupefying justification for ... I've no idea.
