It's our fault

As usual, little Aussies are punching above their weight, having invented planking (or the "lying down game" as Wikipedia calls it, which makes it sound much less exotic, adventurous and intellectual than it is).

We are so proud.

What do you call 100 plankers in a blender?

Plankton.

The planking generation

I thought it involved falling horizontally from a great height with your friend taking a photo of your broke body once you land.

  2. No, that's bungy jumping Sol, and New Zealander's are responsible. Australian's would never be that stupid.

The Pizza Hawaiian is an Australian invention. Not many people know this. The first person to come up with the idea of tossing some Golden Circle canned pineapple chunks on a ham pizza, and name it something exotic and American, was an Aussie.

The thing has spread too. I'm told you often see Pizza Hawaiian in pizza restaurant menus right across the US although there are no reports that it has made it to Hawaii yet.

I'm looking forward to that happening. Payback for the cane toad.

Then 100 supermen plankers in a blender would be:

    planktonite.

  5. I did know that Geoff.

Along with knowing that what passes as pizza is entirely foreign to Italians.

The West likes anything with carbs, so took the the concept of the pizza and added a bit of everything, including the uniquely Australian idea of pineapple.

I think beetroot (and pineapple, preferably)on hamburger is also our invention? No one else would have dreamed that up.

  6. At least 100 supermen would stop their own crash landing if planking from great heights.

Mind you, not sure why plankers get such a hard time for stupidly falling from balconies, plenty of people fall from balconies every year without even trying.

I reckon it was invented in a pizza joint just off Cavill Avenue circa July 1974. It must have been a Sunday because the beer garden wasn't open yet. I bet you didn't know that.

Beetroot on a burger is definitely an Aussie thing. Dunno about pineapple but it stands to reason.

  9. You're right Geoff, I was ignorant of the joint just off Cavill Avenue!

I don't think I knew much of anything in 1974.

(Err, still don't, now that I think of it.)

I don't remember much of 1974 either but I'm sure there was a joint just off Cavill Avenue. Why wouldn't there be? There was just about everywhere else.

Come to think of it, the Pizza Hawaiian was arguably the world's first planker. A double invention - especially if you dropped one in the street face down.
